Ribbon Cutting Celebrates Major Workforce Housing Milestone in Dodge City
DODGE CITY, KS — April 1, 2025 — M.R. Builder, in partnership with many community partners, is proud to announce the official ribbon cutting for United Village, a transformative new development aimed at expanding affordable workforce housing in southwest Kansas.
The event will take place on Thursday, April 24 at 10:00 AM at United Village, located at 1301 Broce Bend. Media, stakeholders, and the public are invited to attend and tour the site.
United Village represents one of the largest housing investments in southwest Kansas, with $60 million dedicated to home construction and $10 million in infrastructure improvements. When complete, the development will include 227 housing units, featuring 197 single-family homes, 25 townhomes, 8 barndominiums, and 10 tiny homes. To date, 92 units have been completed, with more underway.
Of the homes already sold, 40 were supported by the Moderate Income Housing (MIH) grant program through Kansas Housing Resource Corporation and offered at affordable prices ranging from $197,000 to $232,000, helping working families achieve homeownership in a competitive housing market.
“Our goal with United Village has always been to create high-quality homes that are attainable for working families. We’re proud to help meet the housing needs of the people who keep this community running,” said Ric Marboeuf, Owner of M.R. Builder. This development included over 200 local contractors just for the construction of the homes.
United Village addresses a long-standing housing shortage and supports ongoing economic development efforts by making it easier for families, essential workers, and new professionals to live and work in the region. The housing development was spurred by the newly constructed Hilmar Cheese processing facility.
“This project is proof that partnerships work—and they matter deeply in rural Kansas,” said Mollea Wainscott, Assistant Director of Economic Development; “The collaboration between M.R. Builder, the City of Dodge City, Kansas Housing Resource Corporation and the State created something truly impactful for our community. When we work together, we don’t just build homes—we build opportunity, stability, and the future of our region.” The United Village housing development layered the Rural Housing Incentive District program, Moderate Income Housing funds, and the Kansas Housing Investor Tax Credits to build affordable housing.
Nick Hernandez, City Manager of the City of Dodge City, said “In many rural areas, large-scale housing projects like this don’t happen without true collaboration. United Village shows how Dodge City can lead the way in innovative housing solutions when state, local, and private partners work together.”
M.R. Builder and the City of Dodge City want to thank all partners who contributed to making this project a reality, especially the State of Kansas and KHRC for their continued commitment to rural housing solutions.
