Transportation

Dodge City and Ford County have quick access to major U.S. routes, a BNSF railway, and commercial air services. The city and county are located within 100 miles of I-70 and less than 150 miles of Interstate I-135 and I-35. Southwest Kansas provides air services to two major connecting international airports in the U.S.

Highways

Three U.S. Highways cross through Dodge City - U.S. Highway 50 (east to west), 283 (north to south), and 400 (east to west). U.S. Highways 56 (east to west) and 54 (east to west) also pass through Ford County. U.S. Highway 50 is a major highway that stretches from the east coast to the west coast. In Kansas, this highway connects Ford County with Interstates 135 and 35 in the eastern part of the state.

Airports

DODGE CITY REGIONAL AIRPORT
Dodge City Regional Airport is a municipal airport. Daily commercial flights too and from Denver are available through SkyWest. General aviation services are available at the airport. For more information, visit the Dodge City website.

Located 40 miles from Dodge City, the Garden City Airport offers daily flights to Dallas/Fort Worth. For more information, visit the Garden City Airport website.

WICHITA DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER NATIONAL AIRPORT
Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport is located in Wichita, approximately 2 ½ hours from Dodge City and is the closest major airport to Ford County. Railways

Industrial rail services in Dodge City and Ford County are provided by Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BSNF Railway). BNSF is the product of nearly 400 different railroad lines that merged or were acquired over the course of 160 years. A BNSF shortline, Cimmaron Valley Railroad has interchanges in Dodge City and Boise City, OK.

Passenger service is available from Amtrak – Southwest Chief Line, which runs between Chicago and Los Angeles. The Dodge City Santa Fe Depot Train Station was built in 1898, and is the largest train depot still standing in the state. Historic tours are available, and outside the facility are historic twin sundials that show both Central and Mountain time. Railers, local volunteers, staff the Train Station and are available to meet and greet rail passengers daily.
